Jenny and Lucas’ Engagement Session

Today,
Saturday, July 3, 2010, in a little church in Dover, New Hampshire, Jenny Roth is going to marry Lucas Caron. Lucia, Bob, and I will be there to cover this beautiful moment, and then we’ll all dash over to the Wentworth where the reception is certain to be a very elegant affair.

I know there’s going to be plenty of people coming to this page to get a glimpse at their wedding photos, but they won’t be up for a little while, so instead let me show you a few of our favorites from their romantic session.

Annie and Kevin’s Romantic Session

If I gave a prize for most creative wedding theme (and I should), I’d certainly be awarding it to Annie and Kevin, who are are having a film-noir themed wedding (think of Bogart as Sam Spade) in October at the Portland Company (the gritty warehouse complex that was once the home of Portland’s railroad industry at the base of the Eastern Prom). I love the combination of black and white elegance, steel beams and concrete floors, and exposed brick. It’s a juxtaposition – beauty and elegance contrasting with the decay of modern ruins (this is how I see the abandoned architecture that Maine is full of – our military forts, desecrated mills, and abandoned warehouses are the Colosseums and Pantheons of Portland). Malorie and Sean’s Romantic Session

This is Malorie and Sean. Next September, they’re getting married at the Dunegrass Golf Club in Old Orchard Beach, and we’re already excited about the wedding. First [- they’re both really cool people. Second, they’re really easy on the eyes, so I know we’ll have some amazing images of their wedding.

Carey and Ben’s Romantic Session

Romantic session at the beach – Amy & Mike

The best part of my job as a photographer is not creating images – it’s meeting people and being involved with their lives. Amy and Mike live in Virginia, and have been married for just about one year. While planning a vacation for them in Maine, Mike decided to surprise Amy by planning a romantic photoshoot on the beach, and we love romantic surprises. Angela and Kevin – Engagement Session

Angela and Keving are getting married this August at the Eastland Park Hotel in Portland. We had a perfect evening for their romantic session at Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth, and I’m really pleased with these images. Nancy & Michael’s Engagement session in New Castle

New Castle, I apologize. You’re a much cuter town than I thought you were. I was hesitant about doing a romantic session there for a couple who is getting married at the Wentworth this fall. I didn’t want their romantic images to feature their wedding venue, and Michael had to persuade us to work in New Hampshire. And while I still think we’ve got a slightly more photogenic coastline in Maine, these images rock! Thank you New Castle, and congratulations Nancy and Michael.

Meghan and Tyler’s Engagement Session

This one is definitely late, because I’ve already posted images from Julie’s wedding here, but there’s a reason. Normally, we photograph a couple at a coastal romantic session months to years before their wedding. But Mike couldn’t get the time off from work to come up from Virginia until their wedding, and on my processing priority list, wedding images come before anything else. So I just finished processing these, two weeks after the wedding images have been posted, but I think they were worth the wait.

Gary & Barbara’s Romantic Session

These are a few of my favorite images from an engagement session we did last week in Cape Elizabeth. Gary is a firefighter in Boston, and we had really been hoping for a romantic session on top of one of the engines (tangled in the hoses, like in the movie Backdraft), but scheduling (and perhaps department regulations about romance on firetrucks) did not permit it.

I love their close connection in every image we took, and I think that these six images shows how lucky they both are to have found each other, because they truly seem to have a great relationship. And if we can portray just a glimse of that connection in photographs, I’m thrilled with my part as their photographer.

The wedding is in late October – look for wedding photos then. Thanks for looking – Will

A few from last night’s engagement session. A drop-dead gorgeous couple, Maine’s rocky shores, what more can you ask for?

My favorite is the second image, where Jessica is embracing Joey. I like the way their bodies are entwined, without either person being hidden.

Kristy and John are getting married in Las Vegas, so I’m totally bummed that I won’t get to cover their wedding. However, I’m thrilled that they were willing to trudge out to Gilsland Farms in the middle of January to get these amazing romantic images for their engagement. Congratulations to you both, Lucia and I wish you a Wonderful Vegas Wedding!

Okay, I’m a little biased, but I love every one of their images. Impossible picking just a few for this blog, and I’m totally recomending winter romance to people next year. We do so many summer engagement sessions, with tourists stopping to watch what we’re doing, and so little in the solitude and serenity of a snowy field. That’s my pitch for winter romance.
